Huila was first presented at Habitare’s Signals trend exhibition in 2022. The goal of Kelkkaprojekti in designing Huila was to create a simple cabin for many different uses. Together with Tammisto Wood, the result was a Huila that beautifully fits its environment and respects its landscape. It received an interested reception, and visitors’ thoughts brought up many more uses.<\/p>\n

Huila is made of CLT wood and is delivered with untreated surfaces, pre-assembled. Upon request, it can, for example, be surface-treated with the Finnish Kivipuu method. Kivipuu treatment is a completely non-toxic, durable wood based on nature’s own fossilization process, thanks to which Huila’s surface is both extremely durable and fire-safe. Wood treated in this way patinates to a beautiful gray in sunlight, it does not need to be oiled, so it is practically maintenance-free. Upon additional request, Huila can also be paneled. Huila is electrified and an air source heat pump can also be installed to ensure efficient ventilation and heating. For Huila’s foundations, a compacted sand bed is needed, for example, on top of impregnated base timbers or on screw piles.<\/p>\n
