I received an invitation to a beautiful 60s house to update the kitchen and a little more. “Update” in itself is a bit of a wrong word, because the goal was rather to restore a previously updated kitchen closer to the era of the house and at the same time enhance functionality. I got Sofie, who is studying in the field, to help me, and together we sparred and the project progressed.
In the kitchen, we decided to remove a narrow closet next to the kitchen to gain more space, and at the same time also move the dining table to the kitchen side instead of the living room in the same space. Traditional oak doors were chosen as materials, and the sweetly beautiful Breccia Pernice marble as the countertop material. On the other side, a practical Stala stainless steel sink was replaced as the countertop. Warm, calm materials brought just the right amount of warmth to the kitchen. All wall and ceiling surfaces were painted with Farrow&Ball’s matte shades. A greenish-gray was chosen for the floor tile, inspired by the family mother’s favorite photo, to bring a suitable contrast to everything.
For the hallway floor, easy-care Bolon was chosen, and classic Essem hallway furniture. The goal in everything, including lighting, was to divide the kitchen and living room into their own spaces, and to clarify the flow to other spaces.
In this home, it’s easy to see the whole family gathering to cook and around the common dining table :). It was great to work with Sofie – it was nice to get different perspectives and bright sparring company.
