Ice, Light, Baby!

When times are windy and the polar night seems to last endlessly, inner and outer light are longed for. Based on this, Visit Finland’s ValoOn 2021 virtual seminar was organized for nearly a thousand registered participants. Kelkkaprojekti was invited to design the atmosphere of the seminar stage. We pondered what brings us light and joy at this time of year and decided that the spring sun on the surface of glittering ice should be our guide in the design. We got inspiration for this from Visit Finland’s magnificent photo, which became the background image for the entire seminar. We also hinted at this nature trip and campfire to the performers, making them blend into the atmosphere – only ice picks from their necks were missing!

The ice glitters when the sunlight hits it – we wanted to convey this to the other side of the screen as well: when there is light inside, it reflects into everything you do and through that to other people. Lately, light has been a bit difficult to find mentally and physically, and we wanted to encourage entrepreneurs all over Finland to these reflections: you get what you send out!

I have had the pleasure of working with Heidi and Sisse on several productions in different parts of the world, and even this time, despite the exceptional circumstances, showed no signs of compromise in Kelkkaprojekti’s commitment or work! Kelkkaprojekti succeeded in creating the desired glitter of ice, snow, and light in an empty exhibition hall and bringing exactly the visual red thread to an online event of about a thousand people, which is often missing from these somewhat more special productions.
