Restaurant Rue Madame <3 Relove

“It’s as if Rue Madame had always been here.” That was the starting point, kept clear in mind throughout the entire shared project, which lasted almost a year. Classic elements with a modern twist, without forgetting fun and relaxation.

The space itself set strong boundaries for the design: respecting the original and tipping a hat to it with lace gloves. The undertaking was massive, as the space, previously a clothing store, was transformed into a full-time restaurant. Dozens of people, meeting buns in various configurations, and endless solvable issues brought by new situations. Professionals from their own fields, who brought their own spices to the Rue Madame family. The Helsinki City Museum was also involved in the project, overseeing that original shades and structures were respected as much as possible.

Rue Madame is our second joint project with Noora. As with Relove at the airport, here too every small detail has a story, and its place has been carefully considered. All furniture has been designed for Rue Madame, or they are vintage treasures found along the way. The vision in Noora’s head was aimed to be brought to life, down to every fork and curtain tassel. Noora’s antique finds found their rightful environment one by one.

Dozens of wallpaper books were reviewed, fabric samples traveled in tote bags to the site and back. To the delight of families and dogs, cars were constantly full of fringe ribbons, porcelain swans, molding samples, wallpaper pieces, old lamps, and lovely tiles.

It’s a blessing to have a client for whom compromise is not an option, and in whose magical circle of enthusiasm and gentleness inspiration and creativity stay afloat. The entire Relove team created a fun atmosphere last year, where it was easy to be, even if at times Murphy was sitting tightly on the back rack. I am so grateful that I got to help again as best as I could in realizing Noora & Eero’s visions and special dream. The incredible kitchen & dining room team offers delicacies and gentleness under the leadership of Kaisa and Eki; the place is a true Sunday for all senses.

Maximalism, carefully considered randomness, design relaxation, and the joy of work. It will take a while to recover from this year, and I don’t think I’ll be ready to let go of this feeling for a long time 🙂 So happy for an incredible year! Congratulations Espa, Madame est arrivée.
