Private home in Helsinki on the borders of imagination

It is rare to come across a client with whom the possibilities for patterns, colors, and textures are almost limitless. In this project, details were refined, and I made many new discoveries from the most unusual addresses. The color palette is rich, but I still aimed to create a calm and peaceful home, a pleasant retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the very first mood board, the client and I were on the same page regarding style, aiming for an Amsterdam/London-inspired atmosphere, and a personalized backdrop for art and life. We also allowed time for changes in plans during the different phases of the renovation; often, only after a part has been realized do you see what it still needs.

The apartment’s design work began in the autumn of 2021, and renovation started in January 2022. Johanna enlisted the help of interior architect Sisse Collander, whose style she admired. Johanna and Helmi told Sisse their wishes, after which Sisse provided Johanna with an inspiration board she had created. They immediately found common ground. – Sisse dared to take a bolder path. I love that the ceilings are wallpapered, the kitchen is pink, and the bedroom hides behind a secret door. The home is full of surprising details, says Johanna. In addition to the Glorian Koti article, the bathroom section of this home was published in Schöner Wohnen magazine in May 2025.
